AC Gas Refilling: what you get

A full AC gas refill recovers whatever refrigerant is left, pulls the system into a deep vacuum to boil off moisture and prove it holds, then recharges it to the exact weight printed on the label under the bonnet. It is the right job after a compressor, condenser or pipe repair, or when the system has gone completely empty, because a quick top-up cannot tell how much gas is actually inside. The work is done on a recovery and recharge machine at a partner workshop, with collection and return of your car.

  • Recovery of the remaining refrigerant, with the amount recorded
  • Vacuum to remove air and moisture, followed by a hold test for leaks
  • UV dye or nitrogen pressure test where a leak is suspected
  • Recharge by weight with the correct gas, R134a or R1234yf
  • Compressor oil replaced in the amount the system lost, and vent temperature checked

Car was dead on B2 of my building at 6am. Sent the pin, technician was there in 25 minutes, tested it, showed me the reading and fitted a new Amaron. Didn't even have to move the car.

They explained why the Patrol needs the bigger battery and didn't push the most expensive one. Paid with Tabby in four parts, which helped that week.

I thought it was the battery. Guy tested it and said the alternator wasn't charging properly. Saved me buying a battery I didn't need. Honest service.

The dealer quoted me a two-day wait. These guys came to the office car park, fitted an AGM and registered it with their laptop. No warning lights since.

Came back from three weeks abroad to a flat battery. The jump got it going and the test showed it was finished, so they replaced it on the spot. Clean job.

AC Gas Refilling questions

Question not here? Send a message and a technician answers, not a bot.

How is this different from an AC gas top-up?

A top-up adds gas to a system that is still partly charged, guided by pressure readings, and suits a car that has slowly lost some cooling. A full refill empties the system, tests it under vacuum and charges it by exact weight, which is the only reliable method once the system is empty or has been opened for repair. For a quick on-site top-up, see our car AC gas filling service.

How do I know which AC gas my car uses?

A sticker under the bonnet, usually on the radiator support or near the front of the engine bay, lists the gas type and the charge weight in grams. Older cars and many GCC-spec models use R134a, while a growing number of newer models, especially European ones, use R1234yf. The two are not interchangeable, and the machine is set to whichever your car needs.

Why does my AC need gas again after last summer's refill?

Refrigerant is not used up, so a system that keeps losing gas has a leak somewhere. Common culprits in the UAE are condensers pitted by stones and road debris, perished O-rings and weeping compressor seals. The vacuum hold and dye test point to the leak, and you are shown it before any repair is suggested.
