Can every scratch be polished out?
Only scratches that stay within the clear coat. If your fingernail catches in it, or you can see grey primer or bare metal, polishing will not remove it and it needs touch-up or smart repair. Chasing a deep scratch with the polisher thins the clear coat, so the technician stops at a safe depth.
What is smart repair?
Smart repair is a small-area technique where only the damaged spot is prepared and sprayed, then blended into the surrounding paint. It suits bumper corners and scuffs up to roughly the size of a palm and avoids respraying the whole panel. Larger damage or a dented panel goes to our paint repair or body and paint service.
Can scratch repair be done in a basement car park?
Polishing and touch-up work well in a covered basement or shaded bay, which also keeps fresh paint out of direct sun. Smart repair needs some clear space around the car, and outdoor spraying is avoided on windy, dusty days because airborne sand settles in wet paint.
