Tyre Puncture Repair: what you get
A puncture in the tread area can usually be repaired on the spot: the tyre is taken off, checked inside, sealed with a plug-patch and refitted at the correct pressure. The technician comes to your home, office or the roadside, so you do not have to drive on a soft tyre or fight with the spare wheel in the heat. If the damage is in the sidewall or too large to repair safely, you are told straight away and the spare can be fitted instead.

Which punctures cannot be repaired?
Holes in the sidewall or shoulder, cuts longer than about 6 mm and tyres that were driven flat for some distance are not safe to repair. In those cases the tyre has to be replaced.
Can run-flat tyres be repaired?
Some tyre makers allow one repair if the tyre was not driven far while deflated, and others do not allow any. The technician checks the tyre and the maker's guidance before deciding.
Is the sealant from a puncture kit a proper fix?
It is a temporary measure to get you to help. The tyre should still be taken off and repaired properly, and the sealant cleaned out, because it can clog the pressure sensor.
