Atlas BX MF
Everyday Korean and Japanese cars without start-stop
The battery arm of the Hankook group, made in Korea since the 1940s
Atlas BX is a Korean battery maker owned by Hankook & Company, the group behind Hankook tyres. It is a value-focused, well-built option for Korean and Japanese cars in the UAE, with sealed flooded, EFB and AGM ranges. It also builds batteries for other brands, so the engineering is more established than the price suggests.

| Brand | Origin | Technologies | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Atlas BX | South Korea | Flooded (SMF), EFB, AGM | Hyundai, Kia and Genesis owners |
| Varta | Germany | Flooded (SMF), EFB, AGM | German cars that came with Varta from the factory |

Atlas BX MF batteries give typical sealed-battery life in the UAE, and they hold charge well during a week or two of parking. Owners who regularly leave a Sonata or Sportage in an open-air villa driveway through July should expect the battery to tire a little sooner, and a mid-summer test is worth booking before a long trip.
Atlas BX traces back to a Korean battery company founded in 1944 that Hankook took over in 1977, and it adopted the AtlasBX name in 2004. In 2021 it was merged into Hankook & Company, the holding company of the Hankook group. Alongside its own brand, the company produces batteries for other well-known badges, ACDelco among them, which tells you the plant is trusted by major names. Its batteries sell in well over a hundred countries. In the UAE we see Atlas BX most on Hyundai and Kia models and on Japanese SUVs, where its JIS cases fit straight in. For a driver who wants Korean factory quality without paying for a famous badge, it is a strong pick.

They belong to the same group. Atlas BX was merged into Hankook & Company, the holding company that also owns Hankook Tire. Some Atlas BX batteries are sold under the Hankook name in certain markets.
The batteries sold in the UAE come mainly from the company's Korean plants. The group has also opened production in other countries, so the label is the place to check. Korean origin is printed clearly on genuine units.
For Korean and Japanese start-stop cars, yes, provided the size and capacity match the original. For German cars we tend to fit the OE brand because the car's battery management is tuned to it. Either way, registration is done on site where the car needs it.
Cost comes down to brand positioning, production scale and import route rather than a big gap in quality for everyday use. European brands also carry more AGM stock for premium cars. For a standard Japanese or Korean fitment, the difference in service life is small.
